We were excited to shoot closer to home for Carmen and Kate's engagement session! It was great to explore our own backyard this time around and, as some of you may know, the Poudre Canyon does not disappoint. We kicked off the session exploring the beautiful Gateway Natural Area, which was bustling with visitors. Originally, we had our sights set on a path across the Poudre River to get to a secluded spot, but the water was much higher than we anticipated after all snowfall we've had this season. We were in luck though because these two are all about the adventure, so we crossed barefoot, wading through the icy cold river, shoes in hand. Kate was signed up to run marathon the following day, so we moved carefully over the wet rocks - we surely didn’t want to risk any injuries!

It was clear Carmen and Kate were in their element as we made our way along the river, climbed on top of boulders and trekked through tall grass. Eventually we made our way to Watson Lake for the second half of the session. Surrounded by beautiful red rock and golden light, the lake was the perfect setting to cap off our evening. We can’t wait for their wedding at Rist Canyon Inn this summer! Congrats you two!
