LOST GULCH ENGAGEMENT

BOULDER, COLORADO

Jordan and Chris traveled from Sioux Falls, South Dakota for their Lost Gulch summer engagement photos in the Boulder foothills. Even though the front range was on the verge of a heat wave, this spot up Flagstaff Mountain was basking in cooler breezy temperatures and wildflowers.

With stunning views spanning from the plains to the peaks of Rocky Mountain National Park and the Indian Peak Wilderness, it’s truly no wonder why this spot is so very popular. It’s a great place for hiking, picnics, and photography, and it’s especially beautiful during sunrise and sunset. Lost Gulch Overlook is conveniently located just a short drive from the city of Boulder, Colorado, making it a convenient and accessible destination for those who live in or are visiting the area. It’s easily accessible and makes for a great day trip or weekend adventure for locals and tourists alike.

Despite the hot weather, Jordan & Chris were excited for their session. Throughout the shoot, they were naturals in front of the camera, which made for some really authentic and candid moments. They were open to trying new poses and locations, and their adventurous spirit made the session so much fun.

We started the session by exploring the path along Lost Gulch Trail among the dense evergreens and colorful wildflowers that ranged from deep blues to bright yellows. There was no shortage of spectacular views in nearly every direction and we had fun getting to know these two better as time went on.

Colorado is known for its stunning mountain landscapes, and one of the most beautiful sights in the state is the wildflowers that bloom in the mountains each year. If you’re a nature lover or a photographer looking to capture the beauty of Colorado’s wildflowers, it’s important to know the best time of year to find them.

The wildflower season in Colorado typically starts in late May or early June and lasts through August, depending on the elevation and location. In general, the higher the elevation, the later the wildflowers bloom. June is a great time to see wildflowers in the lower elevations of the Colorado mountains, such as the foothills and the lower slopes. You can find a variety of wildflowers during this time, including lupine, paintbrush, and columbine, but it’s a perfect time for Lost Gulch engagement photos.

When they changed into their sleek black attire and brought out their lightsabers for the second half of the session, we knew things were about to get real fun! As diehard Star Wars fans, they were excited to jump right into cosplay and we were all for it. The images were playful and fun, capturing the couple’s personalities and interests. They also added a pop of color and light to the images, creating a unique and memorable experience. By bringing their own props and ideas to the session, the couple made the shoot their own and created images that truly reflected who they are as a couple.

Considering the crowd that appeared for sunset for this beautiful weekend evening, we were extremely lucky to nail a western facing spot on the rocky ledge. And as the sun slipped deep into the horizon, the force was with these two Jedi’s during one spectacular sunset. The warm, golden light of the setting sun washed over us in a soft glow, creating a romantic and dreamy atmosphere. As Jordan and Chris embraced with their light sabers in hand, their silhouettes outlined against the breathtaking backdrop of rugged peaks and rolling hills.

We were glad Colorado showed it’s colorful beauty to these two visitors on this June evening for their Lost Gulch engagement. See more of our adventure engagement photography sessions!
