Asheville Engagement Photos
We photographed Blue Ridge Parkway engagement photos for my brother and his fiancée, Gabi, while we were in Asheville for my cousin’s wedding. It’s not very often we get to photograph family, but this weekend in October was all about it, and honestly, it felt extra special to slow down and create Blue Ridge Parkway engagement photos that are tied to a season, a place, and a milestone we’ll always remember.
North Carolina greeted us with that lush, mossy green that always feels a little unreal if you’re used to the Rockies. The air was cooler at higher elevation in the Blue Ridge, and we started to see the first hints of fall color, little pockets of reds and oranges peeking through like the season was quietly arriving. It was exactly the kind of slow-burn change that makes Blue Ridge Parkway engagement photos feel extra magical, especially when the color shows up in little surprises around each turn.
We met up at Craggy Gardens, just outside Asheville, and it did not disappoint. The Blue Ridge feels totally different from the Rockies we’re used to (more rolling, hazy blue layers than jagged peaks) but still just as beautiful. Griffin and I used to live and work in Virginia, and we have such fond memories of exploring and hiking the Blue Ridge Mountains together, so coming back for Blue Ridge Parkway engagement photos felt like stepping into an old chapter while celebrating a brand-new one.
And because this was family, it was fun to catch up with these two and hear more about the wedding and their plans for next October. They got engaged in December 2024 at Myrtle Beach, and they’ve been counting down to their 2026 wedding at Nichols Heir in Tennessee.
We kicked things off right at the base of the trailhead because the views over the Parkway were already unreal, those first hints of orange and red were starting to show up in the mountains. Somehow the color popped even more on camera than it did in real life, and we love being able to bring that out and make it really shine in our Blue Ridge Parkway engagement photos.
As we wandered up the path, everything turned lush and mossy, with trees covered in green and textures we’re not used to shooting back home. It was such a fun, fresh landscape to work with. And with Gabi’s long, beautiful red hair and that purple dress, the whole scene felt like a little Alice in Wonderland moment, especially as they held hands and walked together through the stone pathway. Those are the kinds of details that make Blue Ridge Parkway engagement photos feel like a story instead of just a session.
When we reached the top, the views were absolutely epic, wide open and stretching across layers of peaks in the distance. I knew it would be beautiful because we’d been there earlier in the day, but everything changes once that good light settles in. The light softens, the colors start to come alive, and the whole landscape feels even more expansive, prime time for Blue Ridge Parkway engagement photos that feel dreamy and romantic.
Now we’re counting down to next October in Tennessee, when we get to celebrate these two for real and officially welcome Gabi to the family. Funny enough, I get to be a bridesmaid for this wedding, which will be a fun role reversal for me, and I should probably start drafting my toast soon!
We got some really colorful sunset portraits as the sun dipped down, and that spot up top was absolutely a highlight. The sky just kept giving us more and more color, so we grabbed a few extra sunset shots on the way back out, then popped a bottle of champagne to celebrate these two and the start of new chapter together!
