Maroon Bells Proposal Photos
Kyle planned an epic Maroon Bells proposal during peak fall season in Aspen, to ask his longtime girlfriend to marry him—and she said yes! He and Grace were coming to the area with a group of friends, and he knew this trip to finally pop the question and get engaged!
If you’ve ever been to Aspen in the fall, you know it’s hard to oversell it. The air is crisp and the entire valley seems to glow. The view of the iconic Maroon Bells is awe-inspiring at most times of the year, but especially in the fall!
One of the funniest things about planning a session at Maroon Bells is that no matter how many photos you’ve seen, nothing prepares you for the scale in real life. You ride in on the shuttle, round the corner… to see the Bells are towering over the lake, and they always look much bigger in real life! It’s the kind of reveal that makes people go quiet for a second.
We met them near the main waterfront area, and it was exactly what you’d expect on a gorgeous fall day.. Families, hikers, couples, tourists with coffee in hand, folks lining up for that “classic” view. It can feel chaotic if you’re not prepared for it, but that’s also the reality for the last weekend in September. This wasn’t a staged moment in an empty landscape; it was a real day at an iconic place, with life happening all around them. We tried our best to blend in with tourists that lined the lake for pictures.
It didn’t take long for Kyle to spot us, and shortly after that he guided Grace toward a spot near the water. The weather looked like it might storm at any moment, and then it would soften back into sunshine.
Kyle turned to Grace and dropped to one knee, and proposed to her right by Maroon Lake. Grace was shocked, full disbelief, jaw dropped, hands to her face. She had no idea he was going to ask her to marry him, and she was overwhelmed with joy. The crowd around them faded and for a few seconds, it was just the two of them and this wildly beautiful backdrop.
Their friends were there to celebrate, and as soon as Grace said yes, it turned into this warm, communal moment—hugs, happy tears, and the kind of excited chaos that makes you feel lucky to witness it.
Once the excitement settled, we shifted into portraits for their Maroon Bells proposal. This is where Aspen really shows off in the fall. The lake view is iconic, but the surrounding groves are equally special. We walked away from the busiest part of the waterfront and found pockets of gold where the leaves were falling slowly, and the light filtered through in layers.
The aspens were absolutely glowing and it was a surreal and serene golden wonderland, which is exactly why I love aspen engagement photos this time of year, and why so many couples travel to Aspen specifically for engagement photos at Maroon Bells. Between the dramatic, towering peaks, the glassy water, and the sea of golden trees in the White River National Forest, it’s one of those rare places where every angle looks like a postcard and the fall color feels bigger-than-life.
Kyle and Grace were still riding the high of their Maroon Bells proposal, and it showed in every frame, the kind of happy disbelief, nonstop smiling! To celebrate, they popped a bottle of champagne to celebrate! Congratulations guys!
